At Graph Expo xpedx announced that it will distribute the EFI wide format printer line including EFI-VUTEk and EFI-Rastek. This is a very positive deal for xpedx, which has been moving methodically into wide format for a number of years, and for EFI which recently lost an important distribution partner in the United States when Agfa acquired Pitman.

　　xpedx is quite a natural partner for EFI given that it already sells EFI web-to-print and print MIS software to commercial and in-plant printers in North America. Although xpedx is new to high-end wide format digital equipment sales, it is the exclusive distributor of Ryobi presses, so xpedx can sell big printing hardware. xpedx will likely have to further expand its portfolio to meet the needs of wide format users, but the company did say that its plans include the sale of wide format digital printing hardware, ink and media. Also, xpedx has more distribution centers, 110 for xpedx vs. 15 for Pitman according to the company’s web sites. So, if EFI looked like it was disadvantaged when it comes to wide format distribution when Agfa bought Pitman, it has recovered nicely with its new, bigger partner in xpedx.
