Ricoh India launches C900 digital colour production printers in India

Ricoh India, a publicly quoted subsidiary of Ricoh Company Ltd of Japan, spelled out its initiatives to take an increasing share of the graphics arts market. At a press meet, the managing director of Ricoh India, Neel Maitra said that “the new range of Pro C900, Pro C720 and Pro 907/1107/1357EX will be backed by Ricoh’s first-of-its-kind ‘Pro-Partnership Program’ that will offer a huge value proposition for customers.” The Pro-Partnership program envisions technology knowledge, training and after sales service. To a large extent these will be embodied in Ricoh’s Live Experience (LEX) Centres that will first be opened in Delhi and Mumbai and later in Chennai and Bengaluru. The combined investment in the first two centres is of the order of Rs. 5 crores.

At the event Tadashi Furushima associate director of Ricoh’s Production Printing Business Group pointed to the increasing share of digital printing because of its efficiency and short turnaround time. In describing Ricoh market positioning, Furushima said, “In choosing an engine [production printers] often have to decide between a low priced light production machine of which the performance does not live up to their requirements or a heavy production machine with a high total cost of ownership that significantly affects their profits. The Ricoh Pro C900 series meets customer requirements by combining professional quality and heavy duty performance at a cost effective price. It is specifically aimed at Print for Pay, Graphic Arts, commercial printers and publishing applications.”

Apart from entering the graphic arts production segment, Ricoh India also plans to enter the consultancy and documents solutions segments with their new IT services division. This activity will include selling software and solutions for document security. Apart from mid-size customers for their document and IT services, Ricoh is very serious about the eGovernance and education segments in India. Describing the education industry as the biggest in India, senior vice-president Sujit Sanyal spoke about the possibility of electronic content and its standardised delivery as one of the important opportunities in the country.

Ricoh’s leading and strong market positions in America and Europe were presented at the event. N Maitra also made it clear that Ricoh India is looking at aggressive and manifold growth, “We will become the number one player in the near future.”
