First Heidelberg Speedmaster CX102 in Asia Pacific

Melbourne packaging printer Litho Superpak is the first company in the Asia Pacific Region to install the new Heidelberg CX102 press, released at Ipex this year.

Avi Rubinstein, the company's general manager, said, ‘The advantages for our company with this press are multiple. Firstly it enables us to remain at the cutting edge in terms of working with the latest technology, a philosophy that has been the hallmark of our success. It has also increased our capacity and at the same time delivered significant workflow benefits and cost- and time-savings due to its one-pass productivity and high level of automation.’

Litho Superpak's Speedmaster CX102 press is configured for six colours with twin coaters. ‘As a packaging printer being able to do UV coating inline is a massive benefit and removes a number of processes that previously slowed down production’.

‘We can now produce jobs in one pass cutting out the offline processes and greatly reducing waste. Plus this press is incredibly fast so we can push through jobs in a fraction of the time. As a result we've greatly improved efficiencies and have been able to save our customers money also. In a competitive market having that kind of edge enables us to compete without compromising profitability,’ he said.

Earlier this year Litho Superpak, a family owned business, moved into its new premises in Brunswick, an inner Melbourne suburb. ‘Our decision to go ahead with the purchase of the CX102 was made in conjunction with our resolution to build a custom-built premises. As such we were able to factor the press' dimensions into the design process and create a plant that accommodates the new press and also gives us room to grow’.

The CX102-6-LYYL-X3 has taken prized position in the plant. Avi said it was great for staff morale to be working with leading edge technology. ‘Everyone thinks this machine is fantastic. It makes us proud to see the work we are producing and the quality we can achieve. That's another benefit of working with state-of-the art technology: you can maintain much greater quality control’.

Avi said the company had already gained new work as a direct result of the installation. ‘People have seen the work we can do on this machine and are bringing their packaging work to us. Every time we put in a new Heidelberg machine we are able to access new markets and this press is no exception’.

A Heidelberg house from the outset, Avi and his father, Ari, didn't consider any other brand. ‘We looked at other Heidelberg presses, but the CX102 is ideal for our business. We are a very happy Heidelberg-house and there was never any consideration of moving away from Heidelberg because they understand our business, deliver a great service and are there to support us in meeting our objectives’.

In conclusion he said, ‘We continue to invest in our business because we never want to fall behind’.

  About the CX102

The new CX 102 impresses with both its high productivity and excellent versatility. It can handle flimsy papers, stiff board and a wide range of plastic materials. Its modular design enables flexible, customised machine configurations. The CX 102 caters for all requirements - from conventional straight presses through to duo configurations with a coating unit before the offset units.

From a finishing perspective the CX 102 can operate as a straight press with and without UV curing equipment, or as a mixed operation with conventional and UV inks. This flexibility means the press can be used to produce a wide range of inline finishing jobs including the option of cold foil applications with FoilStar. These properties make this press the ideal choice for packaging printing, label printing and high-quality commercial jobs.
