HP reports more than 5,000 Indigo presses in operation

HP has revealed that there are now more than 5,000 of its flagship digital presses in operation worldwide.

According to the manufacturer, the cost per colour page has steadily dropped over time since the emergence of its E-Print 1000 in 1993.

In 1996, a colour page was claimed to cost $0.096 (£0.056) but that figure has fallen to $0.020 on its HP Indigo 7000 Digital Press.

Alon Bar-Shany, vice president and general manager, of HP's Indigo division, said: "The creativity and colour that HP Indigo presses have unleashed in the industry is truly revolutionary, and many printers and enterprises have found new business opportunities and revenue streams because of that technology.

"It’s amazing that more than one thousand Series 1 presses are still in use; some of them were sold almost 15 years ago."
