HP launches new digital label press to compete with flexographic

HP has launched its latest digital label press, the HP Indigo WS6000, which it claims can handle up to 80% of jobs printed on traditional flexographic presses while also cutting time to market.

The WS6000 is being targeted at customers in the packaging and marketing sectors.

The machine builds on the HP's existing ws4500 model and can print at speeds up to 30m per minute in four-colour mode.

According to the manufacturer, the WS6000 has been designed to be more cost-effective on jobs up to 4,000 linear metres, work that is normally carried out on flexographic machines.

It can print on a variety of substrates ranging from thin flexible packaging material, to folding carton, label and shrink sleeve media.

Alon Bar-Shany, vice president and general manager of HP's Indigo division, said the latest model builds on the success of the ws4500 and offers "a combination of quality, fast turnaround and flexibility" enabling customers to "pursue new revenue opportunities".

He added: "HP is unlocking lean manufacturing benefits for consumer packaged goods makers in addition to offering a competitive cost per label."
